Under general supervision, Day of Court Volunteer Mediators meet with parties in small claims, civil harassment and/or unlawful detainer cases on the day of the court hearing to discuss the issues involved and to assist the parties in reaching mutually agreeable solutions to their disputes.
The ideal candidate has:
- Completed at least 40 hours of mediation training,
- Conducted or observed at least 5 civil mediations during the past year,
- Experience working with populations with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds,
- The flexibility to commit to serve on the volunteers’ panel for a minimum of one year.
Onsite mentoring may be available for volunteer mediators who do not yet meet the observation or experience requirements listed above. Additional training may be provided when available.
